Firstly, we have no way of verifying whether or not Vyatskaya Matryoshka will be the first matryoshka in space. However, using the words of British Prime Minister Theresa May - "It is highly likely." The following story provides the evidence.
On the 19th of May 2018, a special concert took place in the Yuri Gagarin State Research and Testing Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City (Moscow Region), dedicated to the 50th jubilee of opening of the center, which carries the name of Yuri Gagarin. School children from the city of Kirov were invited to celebrate this event and not just school children but other young talents. One class of children is part of the folk band “Vyatskie lozhkaryata”.
They performed for the Star City cosmanauts their special music program. The children brought gifts and souvenirs from Vyatka – showing the cosmonauts the beauty and variety of the Vyatka region.
Among those gifts was one of our Vyatskaya Matryoshka, given to the wife of Sergey Prokopiev, who will accompany her husband to the Baikonur Cosmodrome
Unfortunately, it was not possible to give the doll directly to cosmonauts as all the crew before the flight are strictly quarantined. The matryoshka will be presented later to the crew.
So, our doll is not only travelling around the world but also is conquering the vastness of space!
